Who We Are

HoopFrog is a verification-first, safety-first Canadian dating app that uses age and selfie-match verification, human moderation and values-based, no-swipe matching to help detect, deter, and remove impersonation and romance scams. HoopFrog is built and operated by HoopFrog Inc., an independent Canadian technology company founded in 2023 and headquartered in St. Albert, Alberta, with roots in Griffithstown, Pontypool, Wales. We are a small, passionate team building what we believe the dating industry has been missing: a platform that prioritizes genuine human connection over superficial engagement metrics.

The name HoopFrog is a fun wink at two old dating sayings: "jump through a lot of hoops" and "kiss a lot of frogs" on the journey to meet the right person. It captures what we believe: finding a real connection takes effort and a sense of humour. A place designed to help you find someone worth putting your phone down for.

Our Mission

We exist to help people build meaningful connections that go beyond surface-level attraction. The modern dating landscape is full of platforms that reward shallow engagement, endless swiping, disposable conversations, and engagement-maximizing algorithms rather than genuine connection.

HoopFrog takes a different approach. We are building a compatibility-first platform where the goal is not more time on the app, but more meaningful time with people who genuinely fit your life. Our deep compatibility scoring goes beyond basic preferences to consider values, communication styles, lifestyle alignment, and relationship goals.

  • Stealth: Browse without appearing in activity feeds, suppress read receipts, and control your visibility. Your privacy, your rules.
  • Safety by Design: Automated content scanning, photo and video moderation, multi-layered identity verification, scam detection, and Block and Report tools. We built safety into the foundation, not as an afterthought.

Our Technology

We are a technology company at heart, and we invest heavily in building systems that keep our community safe and connected:

  • Encryption: Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest (not end-to-end) using strong, industry-standard encryption. To protect the community, automated and human review may examine message-related signals to detect scams and abuse, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Content Moderation: We use a combination of automated scanning, pattern detection, and image and video analysis to identify inappropriate content, scams, and predatory behaviour. Images and video are reviewed before they're shared, and message-related signals are reviewed for scams and abuse.
  • Multi-Layered Verification: Date-of-birth checks at registration, pose-based selfie verification, identity-and-age verification through our third-party verification provider, and mobile number verification help us assess authenticity. Verification cannot guarantee a person's identity or intentions.
  • Compatibility Algorithm: We like math! Our proprietary scoring system evaluates dozens of data points, values, lifestyle, communication preferences, and more, to help you find people who are genuinely compatible with you.
  • Real-Time Communication: In-app messaging with read receipts, voice messages, and video and voice calling, all built with privacy and safety in mind.
  • Push Notifications: Stay informed with instant notifications for new messages, connections, likes, and calls, even when the app is in the background.
  • AI-Assisted Support: Our support chatbot helps answer common questions instantly, learning from frequently asked questions to improve over time. For complex issues, our team is available directly.
  • Built for Privacy Compliance: Our privacy program is designed to support compliance with PIPEDA, Alberta PIPA, and Quebec's Law 25, and to prepare for GDPR/UK GDPR where applicable, including data minimization, automated retention enforcement, and full Data Subject Access Request (DSAR) tooling.

Our Commitment to Child Safety

Protecting children is a non-negotiable priority at HoopFrog Inc. HoopFrog is a strictly adults-only platform, and we build child safety into the product. Every photo uploaded to HoopFrog is checked before it is published against databases of known child sexual abuse material using two independent hash-matching layers, Microsoft PhotoDNA and Project Arachnid Shield (Canadian Centre for Child Protection). Only a non-reversible hash of the image is checked. Routine hash-matching does not transmit images. Where content is confirmed or suspected CSAM, we may preserve and disclose relevant content and account data to lawful authorities and child-protection bodies as required by law. Any match results in immediate account suspension and removal of the content. Photos cannot be sent in private messages on HoopFrog, removing a common abuse vector. HoopFrog Inc. accesses Shield by Project Arachnid (https://projectarachnid.ca), a program of the Canadian Centre for Child Protection Inc., to facilitate the detection and removal of child sexual abuse material and harmful-abusive material of children and survivors of child sexual abuse on its services. We are required to and will report confirmed CSAM to the appropriate authorities, including NCMEC and Cybertip.ca / the Canadian Centre for Child Protection, through our escalation process and in accordance with our legal obligations.
